Barling Sweet Shop

Malcolm Mumford and his friends and relations in front of his house at

380 Little Wakering Road, Barling when it was a Sweet Shop [1960].

The photograph was supplied by Olive (Bradbury) Cooper, whose Aunt Daisy is in the photograph.

Interesting Fact

Number 380, Little Wakering Road was the final home of the parents of George Stanley Ladbrook

(Chauffeur to Edward VIII & Mrs Simpson).

The house was known as  ‘Dunrovin’, and was situated next to the old Barling Gospel Mission Hall in what was then known as Barling Road (Little Wakering Road). The old Gospel Mission Hall was situated next door but later demolished. It was replaced by the house that can be seen to the left of ‘Dunrovin’ in the photo on our website.

The connection can clearly be seen by visiting one of my earlier articles:

‘KING OF THE ROAD! Chauffeur George, the driving force behind Edward and Mrs Simpson’.
